Growing up in Oklahoma, I always carried a sense of wonder and magic that came with the thought of visiting Disney World. I was born in California, but moved when I started grade school. Disneyland was my thoughts, memories, and experiences as a child. Aurora's castle was what I started with. So to wonder and imagine what Disney World would be like was my thoughts until I went to see for myself. The bright colors, enchanting music, and the feeling of stepping into a fairy tale captivated my imagination as a child. Now, as an adult, I find myself revisiting those memories through the eyes of my own family. Our trips to Disney World have evolved over the years, shifting from childhood excitement to creating unforgettable experiences as Disney adults.
Discovering the Magic of Disney World
My first memory of anything Disney was when I was a preschool child. I can still remember the smell of popcorn wafting through the air and the excitement of seeing Sleeping Beauty's Castle for the first time. Walking down Main Street and visiting the Emporium for a new sweatshirt after a heavy rainfall soaked our clothes. Those initial trips were filled with awe, like being on a real-life adventure. I explored attractions like the Mad Tea Party, where I spun around in colorful teacups, and the Jungle Cruise, where jokes and adventures awaited around every corner.
Years later, as an adult, I returned to the Disney experiences, but this time..... Disney World. I was eager to relive those childhood experiences and create new memories with my family. The sense of nostalgia hit me hard as I walked through the gates, the familiar sights and sounds awaking the child within. However, navigating the parks as an adult brought its own set of challenges.

Planning the Perfect Disney Trip
Having visited Disney World multiple times at different adult/family life stages, I learned that planning is essential for a stress-free experience. Use tools and resources that cater to families. Websites like Disney's official page and Disney travel blogs (I personally love DFB & All Ears on YouTube) can provide invaluable insights into current attractions, dining options, and ticketing.
For newcomers to Disney World, it’s wise to create a park itinerary. Consider which parks you plan to visit and the attractions that are must-dos for you and your family. Here are a few tips to help you on your journey:
Make Reservations: Popular attractions can have long wait times. Using the Disney Genie+ service can help you maximize your experience.
Dining Plan: Take advantage of Disney’s dining plans to explore different foods. Character dining is especially fun for kids. *****I love using the dining plan. I like the convenience of it and strategically getting the most bang for our buck.
Timing is Everything: Visiting during off-peak seasons can reduce crowd sizes and wait times. Generally, Mid January or Mid September is a good choice.
Stay On Property: Disney hotels can provide perks such as early park entry and shuttle services to the parks. Staying on-site also immerses you fully in the Disney experience.
By utilizing these tips, my family managed to seamlessly transition between the excitement and logistics of our Disney getaway.

Our Family’s Top Rides at Disney World
Over the years, we’ve discovered several attractions that have become family favorites. Each ride tells its own captivating story and showcases the creativity that Disney is famous for. Here are three rides that we thoroughly enjoyed:
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Based on Disney's The Princess and the Frog, this attraction is a delightful boat ride that immerses you in the lush landscapes of Louisiana. With charming animatronics and captivating music, it transports you into Tiana's Bayou. The ride captures the essence of friendship and adventure beautifully.
Tower of Terror
For those seeking a thrill, the Tower of Terror is a must. This ride plunges you down an old hotel in a dramatic drop, leaving you breathless with excitement. The eerie atmosphere, complete with ghostly tales and unexpected surprises, truly enhanced the experience. It’s fun for adrenaline-seekers and fits the Disney storybook theme.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
As animal lovers, the Kilimanjaro Safaris quickly became a favorite. This tour takes you through the African savanna, where you can spot zebras, elephants, and lions in their natural habitats. With knowledgeable guides sharing insights and stories, the experience feels like a true safari adventure.

Managing Expectations and Stress
When planning a family trip to Disney World, it’s crucial to manage your expectations. Not every moment will go as planned, and that's okay. Remember, it's about spending time together and making memories, not about checking off a list of experiences. You can schedule, plan, and create an itinerary.... but chances are something will cause a hiccup or obstacle in your plans. AND THAT IS OKAY!! Really... It is! Maybe I'm telling myself that. I plan for the whole year leading up to the trip, so to have plans fall through is tough. LOL But.... it's okay and we will get through it. Don't let it bring your vacation down. You spent a lot of money, don't panic if things change. You're still in those most magical place of imagination.
Here are some practical strategies to ensure a more enjoyable experience:
Set Realistic Goals: You won't be able to do everything in one trip. Prioritize your must-see attractions and be willing to let go of the rest.
Break Time: Build in breaks during the day. Whether it’s sitting down for a snack, enjoying an indoor show, or heading back to your hotel for a quick rest, taking breaks can recharge everyone's energy. ****My family needs mid-day hotel naps, or we get tired, hungry, and cranky.
Keep the Kids Engaged: Bring along small toys or books to occupy younger children while waiting in line. Engaging activities can help ease any frustrations.
Go with the Flow: Embrace the unexpected. It could lead to spontaneous fun and create stories that you'll reminisce about for years to come.
Cherishing Family Moments
The beauty of Disney World lies not just in the rides, but in the shared experiences and the memories that stick with you long after the trip is over. As we create new memories, I am constantly reminded of my childhood visits and how they shaped my love for the magic of Disney. My children may not have the same experiences I had, but we are crafting our own unique adventures that will bond us forever.
Final Thoughts on Planning Your Disney Adventure
As you embark on your journey to Disney World, remember that it’s about embracing the joy of family time. Whether you are a first-time visitor or returning for the hundredth time, take those moments to cherish your loved ones.
A wonderful, stress-free family vacation can be achieved by following the right planning strategies, setting realistic expectations, and remaining flexible to changes. With these tips and insights, I hope you and your family can create magical memories at Disney World, just as my family has over the years.
Remember, no one has to be a Disney expert to enjoy the enchanting world of Disney. It’s about the magic of experience and the joy of being together!
