As I sit here with my warm coffee, I can't help but feel the crisp air on this chilly October morning in Oklahoma. It's October 20, 2025, and the weather's definitely letting us know that summer's over, just a month into Fall. The morning air is brisk, and I can feel the chill as I gear up for the day.
This morning, I took our little blind wiener dog for her early walk. Let me tell you, she was not having it! The cold, wet ground was a bit too much for her delicate paws. I could see her shivering as we stepped outside at 4:30 AM. It was a quick trip, and we both were grateful to get back inside where it was warm.
With the weather changing so rapidly, today will be packed with productivity. I’ve got a list of things to tackle, starting with cleaning up from the summer months. It’s time to put away the summer clothes and bring out the cozy attire. I love this time of year when I can finally wear my warm hoodies and comfortable boots. There’s something so comforting about bundling up as the leaves change color. Did you know that in Oklahoma, the peak fall foliage typically happens around the end of October? This year, I feel lucky to enjoy the vibrant reds and oranges around us.
As I look around the house, I see remnants of summer everywhere. The patio furniture needs to be stored, and the garden could use tidying up. I’m planning to spend some time today clearing out the flower beds, organizing tools, and prepping everything for winter. According to gardening experts, ensuring your flower beds are ready for winter can increase the chances of blooms returning in the spring by nearly 75%. It’s a bit of a chore, but I find it oddly satisfying to see everything neat and organized.

First, School-Time!
A serious round of Math is on for the day; and once we’ve tackled math, it’s time for vocal lessons. Alana has been taking singing lessons for a while, and it’s incredible to see her progress. She loves to sing, and I love to hear her practice. Recently, she has learned songs Star Spangled Banner, My Country Tis of Thee, Part of Your World, and a fun Three Blind Mice.
As the day rolls on, I am certain I am not cooking tonight. Last night, I made a delicious Doritos casserole that turned out wonderful. I switched things up by leaving out the cream of chicken soup this time and adding Kinder's Wood-fired Chili seasoning. Let me tell you, it made all the difference! The flavors were rich and savory; the hubs devoured his plate in record time and went for more before I finished mine, I don't think Alana wanted the corn in it. According to my calculations, we’ll definitely be having leftovers tonight—there’s something comforting about warm meals after a long day; so she will have to make a Nutella Sandwich if she doesn't want leftovers.
Reflecting on my plans for the day, I feel a sense of excitement. The weather may be chilly now, but I know it will warm up by 1 PM, and we’ll likely need to turn on the AC again. That’s just how Oklahoma weather is—unpredictable and ever-changing. It keeps us on our toes, and I’ve learned to embrace it.
I’m also looking forward to the cozy evenings that come with this season. There’s something magical about curling up on the couch with a blanket, a good book, or a movie. Did you know that studies show families who have regular family movie nights report feeling closer together? I love the idea of spending more time indoors with my family, and we’ll probably have a few game nights and movie marathons as we settle into the fall season.
Wrapping up this morning’s thoughts, I’m reminded of how important it is to embrace the changing seasons. Each one offers unique beauty and challenges. I’m grateful for the opportunity to spend this time with my family, learning and growing together.
So, here’s to chilly October mornings in Oklahoma! May we find joy in the little things, like warm cups of coffee, cozy sweaters, and the laughter of our loved ones. I’m excited to journal the day and share our experiences as we navigate this beautiful season together.
What are your plans for today? Are you also cleaning up from summer and preparing for the colder months? I’d love to hear how you’re embracing fall in your own home. Let’s make the most of these chilly days and create wonderful memories together!
