Get ready to dive into a sizzling Independence Day bash that's bursting with cheer, bouncy house, a water slide, mouthwatering grub, and a dazzling little fireworks show this July 4th, 2024. Despite the scorching heat and a few mishaps that I'm sure will happen, our Oklahoma Diesel family is getting together in the name of freedom, embracing the joy of being truly liberated in the good ol' USA.

As the sun comes up on this hot day, families and friends all over the country are getting ready to enjoy the celebrations that honor our journey to independence. You can usually find us firing up the grills and smokers, and activities definitely include some kind of water fun. Dressed in red, white, and blue representing unity and patriotism, we come together with excitement for the day's events.
So.. I was rocking flip flops on a day filled with dazzling fireworks, about 8 years ago. (I know, I know - not the brightest idea, should've just went barefoot.) Next thing you know, a rogue sparkler's ember decides to cozy up between my toes and set up camp...literally burning a hole in my toes! Felt like that lasted forever. Ah, good times, good times. Now, every year, I turn into a fireworks safety drill sergeant, lecturing my whole clan on the importance of closed-toe shoes. Safety first, folks! Turns out, fireworks mishaps are more common than you'd think - it's like a national holiday for Firefighters and EMTs! Prayers be with them all this 2024 season.
A Feast for Patriots
An Independence Day event would lose its charm without a wonderful variety of dishes that tantalize the taste buds and reflect the old traditions of our nation. From sizzling barbecues to traditional apple pies, the array before us captures the fusion of tastes that symbolize our countries comfort foods. I take great pleasure in cooking meals for social gatherings and special events, especially on Independence Day! Grilling is my top choice, especially in Oklahoma where we value barbecued and smoked meats. Potato salad, lemon treats, and refreshing summer punch are my preferred complements to our picnic spread.
The smell of barbecued meats drifts through the air, blending with the delicious scent of freshly baked cornbread. The picnic tables strain under the weight of delectable dishes, beckoning everyone to join in a communal meal that goes beyond differences and brings us together in the pleasure of good food and excellent company. This year, our spread will feature brisket, hamburgers, hot dogs, smoked jalapeno poppers, and delightful patriotic desserts.
I am notorious for pinning recipes and never making them. This year, I'm doing it. I am making something from Pinterest. Looking through I found some pretty scrumptiously looking desserts with Independence Day flair. Like these at this Healthy Table.
Though it may only last 3 or 4 hours and we really aren't opening up, or announcing to the community to come visit with us this year, we still invite you to step out and watch the fireworks around the Warner area. We definitely will be doing something entertaining. It will be a great time, with fun activities. We may need some corn-hole and horseshoe games going! Anyone that wants to bring some things out, that would be cool.

Inflatables: The kids are going to enjoy this.
Oklahoma Diesel, my husband, Bill, and Logan, made the decision to rent a bounce house and inflatable water slide to keep the kids entertained while we prepare for the firework show. The children will surely enjoy it! We won't be around all day because these men work tirelessly in the scorching heat on the hot black asphalt daily. Since it's a holiday and a time to celebrate freedom and independence, they are taking the day off while we set up in the evening. Over the past year and a half, these men have worked diligently to grow their business and are starting to have a significant impact on the Warner community.
Sparks of Freedom: Our First Year of Fireworks
As the sun plays peek-a-boo with the horizon, it bids adieu to that Warner mountain, splashing the sky with shades of pink and gold. The excitement for the grand finale of the day's festivities reaches an all-time high. Especially the guys, they'll be plotting their escape to the cool AC the moment that last firework goes "Boom!" 😂 The initial sizzle of the fireworks sets the night on fire, casting a spellbinding glow over our faces. The little ones will be on a mission to gather sparklers, ready to light them up and embark on a sparkling adventure. Oh, and we absolutely cannot forget the smoke balls - those bad boys are pure magic! 🎆 Since this is our first year gathering and most will be just some family & work friends, it will give us an idea if we could host shows in the future for the whole town.
Back to smoke balls....
I recall being about 12-13 years old and strolling through town with my friend Crystal, purchasing smoke balls with whatever money we had. After returning to her house, we would decorate her sidewalk with the vibrant smoke balls, creating games with them. Something so simple, but back then... it was fun and entertained us. Despite getting a few minor burns from those captivating fireworks, it remains a cherished memory shared with a wonderful friend. My youngest now, barely will touch a punk. - How Gen X is raising Gen Alpha's I have no clue. Ha Ha
With every boom lighting up the night, the sky becomes a canvas for some impromptu masterpieces, leaving onlookers in awe and ready to conquer the world! But hey, if you're cruising into town and spot these sky paintings above you, stay alert behind the wheel. Or just pull over and enjoy the show from the parking lot - we'll be there, gasping in amazement as the colors explode and dance across the evening sky. We are ready for a dazzling display that will hopefully leave us speechless, and not injured!
Going Live on TikTok: Sharing the Joy with the World
In a surprising turn of events in today's world, we could transport our event directly into the virtual realm by going live on TikTok to share the dazzling fireworks display with people worldwide. However, I am still mustering the courage to press that live button. Despite having the chance to go live on TikTok for some time now, I have hesitated. Perhaps we will boldly open the virtual gates and welcome everyone to join our party online, uniting people in a joyous celebration of freedom and unity. That's still in the thought process, but not set in stone.
As the last embers of the fireworks fade into the night, leaving trails of light in their wake, we are reminded of the enduring values that define our nation: liberty, unity, and the pursuit of happiness. In the simple pleasures of inflatables, food, and fireworks, we find a profound connection to our shared past and a hopeful embrace of the future.
