"Smoke Sausage n' Rice: A Timeless Family Favorite From Childhood to Adulthood"

#2 on the meal planning list for my kids, of the Crazy Okie Life, is smoked sausage with peppers, onions, gravy, and served over fluffy white rice.




I grew up eating smoked sausage n' rice. Something simple but with so much flavor... and probably cholesterol as well, but let's eat it anyways!

I have to admit, it was a favorite of mine growing up also. I'm not sure if I make it just like mom does, I may have to ask her one day.


Smoked Sausage n' Rice


Simple Ingredients


Of course you can change out the type of sausages you use. (not breakfast) Another fav of mine to use is polska kielbasa or sometimes even both.

  • 2 packs Smoked Sausage

  • 1lb bag of rice

  • Green Bell Pepper

  • Yellow Onion

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 1 box of Chicken Stock or 2 Cans

  • Cornstarch for thickening

  • Black Pepper for taste (NO SALT) the sausage & soy sauce is salty

  • Sliced White Button Mushrooms (optional)


Directions


Simple Prep & Cooking

  1. Slice smoked sausage in pieces

  2. Slice veggies

  3. Cook sausage & veggies in frying pan until desired texture of veggies. I usually like mine to snap but still very tender gravy will tenderize it also

  4. Mix in large cup- Chicken broth & soy sauce, with about a tablespoon or 2 of cornstarch.

  5. When meat & veggies done, (if you grabbed a fatty sausage, you should drain grease) add liquid mix and stir frequently to get the thickness you would like for your gravy or sauce. Cook in a little black pepper. adding more cornstarch water to thicken to how you want, or just more water to thin.

  6. Cook rice according to bag


That's it. Something so simple and flavorful that you won't mind saying yes to smoked sausage n' rice night.
