Behind the Scenes of Crazy Okie Life: 25 Years in the Making

Welcome to the fascinating journey behind Crazy Okie Life! What started as an idea in the early 90s has evolved over the years into a vibrant tapestry of memories, advocacy, and personal reflection. As the founder of this blog, I want to take you behind the scenes of what has inspired me to share my life and the reason this project has been 25 years in the making.

Growing up, I was acutely aware of the struggles many individuals face—especially women—when it comes to finding their voice. The stories of sexual assault and rape victims resonated deeply with me, sparking a desire to do something meaningful in this area. The fear of speaking up and the consequences of suffering in silence are profound. This realization became the catalyst for my original mission: creating a charity to support these often-overlooked individuals.

The Birth of a Dream

In my early 20s, as I began my journey into motherhood, I realized the importance of breaking the silence around sexual violence. I dreamed of creating a charity called "F.A.I.T.H," aimed at providing resources and support for young sexual assault victims. The name would play on the letters, such as Finding Acceptance in the Healing, or something similarly intricate. Although the name has changed over the years, the mission remains unchanged. The goal is straightforward yet profound: to ensure these individuals feel heard, validated, and empowered in their healing journey. By sharing their stories, whether anonymously or openly, they can begin to heal. Additionally, organizing fundraisers would help cover medical expenses, which are unjustly burdensome to victims. We suffer from the harm inflicted by those who brutalized and hurt us, and yet we must revisit this pain with every doctor's appointment or procedure, all because a crime was committed against us and we remained silent.

Through extensive research, and experience, I learned how trauma can manifest in various physical and psychological ways. Many victims endure lifelong repercussions because they feel unable to share their experiences, which only exacerbates their pain. I wanted to change this narrative by creating a safe haven for those who have suffered. It became increasingly clear to me that the first step in healing is accessing the right information and resources—something the Finding Doves charity aims to facilitate.

Transitioning the Focus to Blogging

While my heart lay in advocacy work, I quickly learned that establishing a charity is an exhaustive endeavor that requires immense resources. I realized that while my dream of helping others was intact, I also needed an outlet for my daily life and experiences. That's when the idea of starting a blog began to take shape.

Initially, I believed that sharing daily journal entries would be a fulfilling way to express myself. Yet, the thought of others being intrigued by my daily experiences, especially after navigating emotional complexities, seemed overwhelming. In truth, I'm inherently more of a procrastinator with a spontaneous nature, making the concept of maintaining a daily blog impractical.

Embracing Diversity in Content

While contemplating my blogging mission, I realized that Crazy Okie Life could evolve into a platform showcasing the many aspects of my identity. Instead of adhering to a strict schedule of daily updates, I chose to embrace variety and spontaneity in my content.

My focus shifted to sharing stories—memories of my children, treasured moments, and important life lessons. By crafting a space for these narratives, I'm documenting my family's journey for my children and creating a legacy they can pass on to future generations.

The Power of Memories

Memories are precious, and they are the glue that holds families together. One of my primary goals with Crazy Okie Life is to compile a narrative that my children can read as they grow older. These memories offer a window into their childhood, allowing them to see themselves through my eyes.

Creating a Legacy

The thought of leaving behind a meaningful legacy is deeply fulfilling. I aspire for my children to hold onto these stories and share them with their children. In our fast-paced, digital world, it’s easy to forget the warmth of family stories passed on from generation to generation. By documenting our lives on Crazy Okie Life, I hope to rekindle that connection within our family.

The blog offers an ideal platform to weave together our family history, encompassing the laughter, the trials, and the triumphs. It's not just about capturing moments but also about imparting wisdom and values that can guide my children and their children through life.

Finding the Balance Between Vulnerability and Privacy

While sharing personal stories is essential, it’s also important to strike a balance between vulnerability and privacy. Life can be messy, and I want to offer a genuine glimpse into my experiences without compromising my family’s boundaries.

This is often a fine line to walk. As a writer, I aim to be open about the challenges we face as a family, the lessons learned, and the growth experienced. However, I also make a conscious decision to respect my children's privacy by sharing stories that uplift rather than expose them. It's about celebrating our journey while protecting the sanctity of our family life.

Intertwining Personal Stories with Advocacy

As Crazy Okie Life evolves, I find ways to intertwine advocacy into the fabric of my personal stories. The whole idea of creating a charity like Finding Doves remains close to my heart. I often reflect on the importance of using this platform to raise awareness about issues relating to sexual assault and its lasting impact.

By sharing my journey, I hope to inspire others to speak up about their experiences. I want to create a community of support around important conversations that are often deemed uncomfortable. In many ways, the blog serves as both a chronicle of my life and a vehicle for change.

Embracing Randomness in Content

One aspect of Crazy Okie Life that I take great pleasure in is its randomness. Just as life presents us with unexpected twists and turns, so does my blog. I don't want to be confined to a single niche or theme but rather embrace the eclectic nature of my existence.

From crafting memories about vacations we took as a family to sharing insights from my personal development journey, I want readers to feel as if they’re stepping into my world. The beauty of a blog lies in its ability to evolve over time. I hope my audience appreciates the genuine nature of my content as I cherish the ups and downs of life.

The Next Steps for Crazy Okie Life

So what’s next for Crazy Okie Life? As I look ahead to the future, I’m excited about merging my charity’s purpose with the blog. I have plans to share more advocacy-based content, including resources, articles, and stories that can empower individuals affected by sexual violence.

Creating a charity is still a long-term goal of mine. I envision a thriving support system that not only provides resources but also facilitates conversation around these topics. I want to bridge the gap between personal experience and community growth, creating a coalition of support that encourages healing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Crazy Okie Life is more than just a blog; it's a 25-year journey of self-exploration, advocacy, and love. From its roots as a dream of creating a charity to a vibrant repository of family memories, it has grown into a platform where personal stories intersect with important conversations.

As I continue to navigate this ever-evolving journey, I hope to inspire others to embrace their stories, engage in advocacy, and cherish the memories that shape our lives. Thank you for joining me on this journey—may we continue to share our stories, support one another, and nurture the legacies we create.
